Tournament Tuesday!!! PMTT this weekend! April 29 & 30

With the Professional Musky Tournament Trail (PMTT) about ready to kick off in Cave Run Lake.  We wanted to offer some information specific to the upcoming weekend.  Additionally, some information about Cave Run Lake, Morehead, KY.

Weekend Weather Forecast: 

Saturday April 29, 2023 – Mostly cloudy with some showers in the afternoon.  High near 70 degrees F.  Winds from the West/Southwest at 5 to 10mph sustained (check apps closer to date for gust forecast).  Chance of rain is 40% for the day.  

Sunday April 30, 2023 – Rain showers in the morning with scattered thunderstorms arriving in the afternoon.  High of 63 degrees F.  Winds from the West/Southwest at 10 to 15mph sustained (check apps closer to date for gust forecast).  Chance of rain is 60% for the day.

Lake Water Temperatures are averaging between 58 and 60 degrees F.  

Lake Clarity is currently near 1.5 feet + in some areas.  

 

Cave Run Lake rests within the rolling hills of northeastern Kentucky.  The lake is located on the Cumberland Ranger District of the Daniel Boone National Forest.  Cave Run Lake is an 8,270-acre lake which provides flood protection and a clean water supply to area communities.  Many tourists enjoy the lake for its scenery and excellent recreational opportunities.  Boating, Camping, Fishing, Hiking, Hunting, and Wildlife viewing are some the activities enjoyed by its visitors.  

Cave Run Lake has 12 boat ramps for launching.  Alfrey, Bangor, Blackwater, Claylick, Leatherwood, Longbow, Poppin Rock, Longbow, Scott Creek, Twenty Six, Warix, and Zilpo.   

Some ramps and recreation areas around Cave Run Lake require the purchase of a pass – you can check your area and fees associated with that pass HERE! 

Several Trails are developed in the Cave Run Lake area for hiking and wildlife viewing.  These trails wind through the Cumberland Ranger District of the Daniel Boone National Forest.

The lake is 60 miles east of Lexington, KY with primary access routes to the lake area from exits 123, 133, and 137 from Interstate 64. 

Cave Run Lake is home to a variety of aquatic species such as Crappie, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Various Pan Fish, and is considered the Musky Captial of the South!!!

WATERS OPEN/OFF LIMIT DURING THE TOURNAMENT:

Open: All navigable waters that can be accessed by all boats from the takeoff location of Cave Run Lake and coves up to Fugates Branch in the river are open

Off Limits: All parts of the river past Fugates Branch are off limits. All other waters, lakes, rivers and streams where they enter or leave Cave Run Lake.
