The Catch with Kyle Jones
When A Plan Comes Together
The chase and hunt for these fresh water sharks has been a passion of mine for
over 25. This past September I had an encounter with this shad feeding hawg.
Unfortunately this encounter was a nightmare for any musky angler. The fish
came unpinned as the front hook grabbed the outside of the net and shook free
as I happened to be fishing solo that morning. That’s how it goes!! Over the
following three outings I had encountered this fish again, but she never once
made an attempt to eat.
Full Moon was approaching and I was determined to get this fish to eat. That
morning my friend and myself had 4 muskies in the net by 8am. Approaching the
home of the “the one that got away” I noticed the water visibility had become
extremely muddy. I grabbed a custom pained 7 inch glide made by Steven
Lanham and only needed 1 cast. While dancing the glide side to side with a pause I
let it hang 6 foot from the boat and out of nowhere a big white mouth inhales my
bait and all chaos broke loose. She put on a heck of a fight and was put inside the
net this time thanks to my co-angler. This wasn’t my biggest fish of the year but
this 47 inch shallow water hawg was a special one to get to hold onto.
I hope you all have a happy new year, and a safe and successful 2022 musky
season.
Tight Lines,
Kyle Jones
