Guide lines with Tony Grant: Cave Run Lake

Fall Cave Run Muskie Action Kick Off
“Reports from The Muskie Lodge”

Finally over the past week or so water temps on southern waters have reached a safe
point for quality releases, yet air temps are still above normal. Conditions have made
fishing a little tougher than normal other than those few days when a cold front blows
through. Future forecast has a continuous cool down lowering water temps and
conditions should be about the normal around normal. Current conditions have water
temps in the mid seventies, and at least the next few days has highs around 80 and
sunny but weekend forecast shows quite a cool down which should make for some
good fishing finally arriving. Water levels are just slightly under summer pool. Over the
past week cloudy days has produced pretty good casting and trolling however we have
struggled on the hot sunny summer like days. Square billed crankbaits, smaller
bucktails and swimsuits have taken most of the fish. As we get future into our early fall
rubber like Tubes, Bulldawgs and Medusas will be most effective along deeper weed
edges, don’t be afraid to go shallow when rapid temperature drops. Just around the
corner live bait fishing will be in full force through mid December or later depending on
weather. Over the past few years above normal air temperatures has pushed back our
prime times to kick off on mid October with November being very productive. As
northern waters freeze or seasons close southern waters are a great opportunity to
continue your musky season….check out www.kymuskie.com
