Guide Lines with Todd Forcier: Central Wisconsin

Here’s what’s been happening around here in central Wisconsin. Water temp have been climbing and so has the algae bloom. We’ve been seeing fish but not strikes. T

Our water temps are in the 80’s, with not much relief in the forecast. My best action has been in the morning hours between sunrise and 1100. River has been slow, lot of lookers in and around current breaks and the timber. Twitch baits and gliders seem to be doing the best for us. Surprising top water it’s on fire for me right now. Another lure that is showing some fish is rubber. From Rubber Dubbers to the Toads. We’ve been working these along the current edges on our deeper water. Any format of retrieve from straight retreive to pumping them.

Bucktails have had some success, like Toothy’s Saber Blades. With the warm water we’ve been applying a faster retrieve than normal. But note with these we’re also seeing more follows or the lazy follow. I haven’t booked many trips due to the warm water. It will be a while before I get back out musky fishing
Here’s Jake Thompson with a healthy river fish caught on a Beaver bait. He was working a drop off pumping the bait and got here to bite at boat side.
