Guide Lines with Ryan McMahon: Minnesota Report

It’s been HOT in Minnesota! I haven’t fished in the Twin Cities area since the end of June. I’ve been try to find cooler water temps in Northern MN lately. I’ve been finding some water in northern MN that will start out at 76-77 in the morning and reach 79-80 by late afternoon. We’ve been fishing the first half of the day in the cooler water with some success. It’s been a mix of trolling hard bottom transitions by the deepest parts of the lake and casting big rubber baits.

Our trolling fish have been biting in the morning majors/minors when they’re higher in the water. Blue water baits and Supernatural Baits have been best.

Our casting fish have been set up on deep weed edges on structure that is next to the deepest parts of the lake. These fish have been liking Husky Medusa’s, Pounder Bulldawgs, and Ripping Dawgs.

I feel like the next cool down should push a lot more fish onto structure and a bucktail bite will get going. I definitely am looking forward to that!
