Guide lines with Ken Trail: Virginia Rivers
MH Fishing Report
7/12/2021
Water temps are still holding on the New river and that has
allowed us to extend our season a bit here in the South! We
look for the temperatures to hold mid 70’s for another week or
so on the Lower New river. The James has hit 80 a couple times
and fallen back a couple times. We decided to not fish it unless
we were specifically targeting the Hot Water Study tagged fish.
Which have done a few times with some success!
The water is low and very clear so we are fishing baits that can
be ‘burned’! Fish have been active on blades burned over grass
beds and deeper current areas. We are also catching fish
burning Mag Swimming Dawgs by Musky Innovations. Try
ripping Red October tubes, as this has produced some of our
bigger fish the past couple weeks. With the low and clear
conditions we are finding the majority of our fish in deeper,
current sections of the river. Usually if you find one in an area
there’s several! Good luck out there!
