Guide Line with Thad Hinshaw: Central Illinois

Water temperatures have finally gotten into the low 70’s in this area, however it is only 50 degrees outside as I am typing this report.

This brief cold snap will have the fish relating tighter to cover such as weeds and wood.
Slowing the boat down, making multiple cast, and downsizing a bit should help to contact muskies.
In the days leading up to this cooler weather, the trolling bite was starting to put more fish in the net compared to the casting bite. The shad have finished their spawn and have pulled off the bank bringing the muskies out into the lake basins.
As Summer continues to heat up moving into June, more fish should be hitting the net.
