Blue Ridge Musky Report from Sam Scott

New River / James River Fishing Report – Feb 1 2021

Rain and snow these last 2 weeks has brought river levels up across the commonwealth. We are enjoying prime fishing conditions now and for the next few weeks if precipitation lingers! Water temps are holding between 37-40F and the fish are actively feeding , packing on their winter weight! We have had a lot of success recently fishing jigs and bottom baits very slowly, letting hem sit for long periods on the bottom without movement. With the high flow fish have pushed to the banks and into deep eddies where they can escape the current. Finding these areas of the river and then fishing them thoroughly is a great tactic for February. We had 11 eats and 9 fish landed in the last 2 days using ChubbyChaser Jigs and large Hellbender soft plastics, again working them very slow with long pauses. Glide baits have also been productive when fished above and around lay downs along the banks of the rivers, working the gliders slow and keeping them in the strike zone above the wood for as long as possible! Good luck out there and for more information and tactics be sure to follow Blue Ridge Musky on social !
